Pirates is moving forward

Depp said he was done with the pirates movies after the last one but has since softened his stance on that. Knightly and Bloom have not and said that the film will go on without them.

As long as it doesn't get any weirder than the third one.... a simple story like the first one would be pretty good... like maybe a prequel... Too much happened in that third one...
The dark side is good, give in to your anger... Plus it's good for your complexion...

Penelope Cruz is in negotiations to join Johnny Depp and sail the seven seas in "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides," the fourth installment of the movie series being directed by Rob Marshall.

Depp is reprising his popular role of Captain Jack Sparrow, and while plot details are buried deeper than Blackbeard's treasure, it is known the tale revolves around the Fountain of Youth.

Cruz's character details are also being kept secret, though she is to be Sparrow's foil and equal in many ways.

Terry Rossio and Ted Elliot wrote the script. Jerry Bruckheimer is producing.

the fourth installment of the franchise will not be shooting in the Caribbean (you know, like the title says) or Los Angeles. Those locations have been scrapped for the less expensive Hawaii and London. Perhaps the film should be renamed, "Pirates of the Thames: Maybe We Can Also Use the 'Lost' Set." And for the crew hoping to get a tropical suntan -- or perhaps acquire a Madonna-like accent -- they're out of luck: shooting has been cut down from 145 to a lean 90 days.

Like the "Pirate" predecessors, the fourth installment is being produced by Jerry Bruckheimer -- producer of films such as "Armageddon" and "Top Gun" -- someone who isn't necessarily used to budget cuts. The cuts stem from the new studio Chairman Rich Ross who has tightened the budgets considerably since taking over for former Chairman Dick Cook, who was fired from Disney in September of 2009.

"Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" will be directed by Rob Marshall. Though Marshall won an Academy Award for "Chicago," he's not exactly known for being a director of action films. Other films to his credit include "Memoirs of a Geisha" and "Nine."

The way this is going maybe they should just do a direct to dvd release.

Really? I'm down with a decent Zombie flick. But what with EVERYTHING turning to Zombies lately? Not that I would have seen this movie anyway you understand.

The Pirates movies are like Harry Potter in my house, we see them no matter what. The wife and daughter aren't as critical of things like continuity, plot and storyline as I am. They tend to overlook things like that as long as there are a lot of special effects and some funny parts.

I like the character of Jack Sparrow. I wish Hollywood would come up with characters like this more often.

I like Jack. I even liked the first movie. It just didn't do it for after that.

I really like the first one. The second was ok and the third one was not great but the ship battle at the end, while unrealistic, was pretty damn awesome.
I like most of the characters that Johnny Depp comes up with. I think he is one of those actors that in 20 years will be looked back on as one of the greats. He can play any part from the concerned dad trying to save his daughter (Nick of Time), the complete psycho (Secret Window, Sweeny Todd), the eccentric (Jack Sparrow, Benny & Joon, Mad Hatter and many others), or even roles that are evoke a lot of emotion from the viewer like in What's Eating Gilbert Grape? and those are just the ones I thought of off the top of my head. I don't think he's ever had a bad role or a terrible movie. Even in his worst movie (Crybaby) he was good. He is probably one of the most versatile and talented actors in Hollywood at the moment.
Of course the fact that he is a complete loon probably contributes to his ability.
