Zombie movie banned by Australian censors

Postby jasonjames » Tue Jul 27, 2010 10:48 am

L.A. Zombie," a Canadian indie film described by the Melbourne International Film Festival as "gay zombie porn," has been denied an Australian festival berth by local censors.

The Australian Film Classification Board concluded that implied sex with corpses by an alien zombie in Los Angeles, breached local taste standards.

"L.A. Zombie" will receive a world premiere at the Locarno International Film Festival in Switzerland on August 5, before its North American bow at the Toronto festival in September, according to the film's producers. It was to have screened in Melbourne on August 7 and 8.

Director Bruce LaBruce said the censors viewed only the softcore version of his film, "which features no explicit anally penetrative sex."

LaBruce has built a directorial career shooting hardcore pornography that aims to produce a return for financiers, along with a second softcore version with auteur touches that can screen on the festival circuit to critical acclaim.

The hardcore version of "L.A. Zombie" will be released separately on Halloween after the softcore version plays the international festival circuit.

Umm... I'm not one for censoring, but I'll agree that this movie just sounds dumb.

I'm ok with the zombie, and the idea of gay porn, but those are two things that just don't belong together. Even straight zombie porn just sounds too wrong for me. That goes beyond weird to just plain creepy.

On a side note I was goofing off looking for zombie picture for my daughter's laptop(she wanted a zombie background) and I stumbled upon, what I though, was a zombie fans message board. However, I was soooo wrong.
It was a place for people who like necro and there was some stuff that was way to weird for me. I'm pretty tolerant and unfortunately way too curious for my own good.

I knew that there were people like that in the world. I mean they are part of the reason that ebay won't let you sell dead bodies anymore, but actually seeing boards, very active boards by the way, with links to other sites for those types, it was f*#@ed up.

I've stumbles upon some extremely fringe groups before, but they were by far the most out there.
I couldn't believe how many people identified themselves as morticians, coroners, or other that work in that field. I guess it makes sense for them to chose that line of work, but I guess I never thought there were that many of them.

I just thought that was an interesting little story and this post reminded me of it so I decided to share my freaky internet experience with you. You are very welcome :D

well given my views of the afterlife it doesn't really bother me. i won't know if it is happening anyway. I just can't believe that there are people who get off on that. I learned a lot about them from the sites. Even within their group there are subsets and preferences that never would have occurred to me in a million years and I've got a pretty vivid and weird imagination. Any fetish, deviant sexual behavior you could possibly imagine can be found on the internet. There are some really messed up people who hide under the guise of "normal", every day people.
Looking at it as a soon to be therapist/counselor in the mental health field I find this stuff disturbing, yet incredibly fascinating at the same time. What drives people to do stuff like this? Is it upbringing, brain damage, trauma, chemical imbalance, distortions or errors in perceptions, some type of self medicating behavior, attention seeking behavior of some sort or is it some form of rebellion against social norms? Two girls one cup is another prime example of the completely f*%^ed up stuff people will do. It is like driving past a car wreck. You don't want to see anything that might be disturbing or upset you, but you have to look. You immediately regret it the first time you see something you don't want to see, but even after you do see something horrific, you will still look the next time you encounter a wreck. The internet just allows you to look from the safety of your own home.
The crap you can find on the internet is amazing.

The two girls and a cup thing was passed around the bar I work at as something that had to be seen to believe. Of course the people passing this info around were gay and were into that kind of stuff. Who would of thought of stuff like Plating or shrimpin.

I don't think there is ever one reason. For one it might be a chemical imbalance for someone else it might a self destructive behavior, for other it might be desperation. There is a film company that when it does its auditions you have to indure a caning. If you take 50 strokes you will be considered for the part. The news article I read on it, there were middle aged single moms that indured it because they needed the money for there kids. Some would even indure the pain to the point of passing out because of the need for money. The sad thing was it was all a hoax to get people naked and with there permission beat them.

I personally believe a lot of it has to do with how as a society we have kind of boxed ourselves in. If you are not into an art form you really don't have an avenue for release. You drive your car fast you are ticketed, you have more than one beer you get hauled to jail, if it involves something that you might injure yourself then forget it. Some of this has to be blamed on lawyers and greedy people. For instance in my home town it is illegal to throw a snow ball, pop a wheely on a bike, skateboard on the sidewalk, ride a push scooter on the sidewalk, etc.. The problem I have is if you throw a snowball and break someones nose then there are already laws to handle this. The city does not need more laws which essentially gives the police more options. Yet if someone pulls into a public parking lot and hits my car the police can not ticket them, even if they were driving reckless. This acutually happened to my boss, totalling his van, police offered no assistance and threatened my boss with jail time for being upset.

I think that the confines we are placed in and the limited areas to release our energy has caused people to go to extremes. Some of that is human nature. We like to push things. If you dare someone to jump off a 4 ft ledge the next dare with be from a 8 ft ledge, etc.. Part of it might be how well we adapt to things. If you drive 65 mph everyday pretty soon that seems slow or average. When the confines prevent people from pushing themselves they look for other avenues for release. Some of the avenues are dark and disgusting by my standards. I just don’t see any end to the extremes that we are seeing.
