I want to start out by talking about the artwork in this book. It is something that some will like and others will dislike. I fall in the category that dislikes it. To me the images apear as if viewing through a thin layer of water. They are not real sharp and at times appear distorted. The story does have a lot of mystery behind it but is still a normal batman story set in the future. I finished this book only because I wanted to find out who Batman was. I can't say that I am real happy with what little they do give us. I did like the writers take on Robin and how Gordon was done. For the most part the story is ok but was not enough for me to get over the artwork.

Well, this was an interesting experience. The story starts off so intriguing and raises a whole load of questions. The problem is that it never really answers any of the questions it raises. The artwork is... different. It's true that it is a completely different style than we are used to seeing Batman in. I didn't have as much of a problem with the artwork as JasonJames did, because the story was so pulling. So, different artwork aside, the question is does this make a good graphic novel? Answer, no it does not. When you bring up questions in a one off book, you probably should answer at least one of them! C'mon, I'm ok with mystery, but this is ridiculous. If this was part of a series, or even a mini series I would fell differently about it. But it must stand on its own, and I'm afraid it doesn't stand well at all.
