Infinite Crisis

Overview:
IT IS THE DC UNIVERSE’S DARKEST DAY…

OMAC robots are ramping, magic is dying, villains are uniting, and a war is raging in space. And in the middle of it all, a critical moment has divided Earth’s three greatest heroes: Superman, Batman, and Wonder Women. But long-lost heroes from the past have returned to make things right in the universe…at any cost. Heroes will live, heroes will die, and the DCU will never be the same again.

I regularly ask Jason James for a Graphic Novel to read, as his collection is vastly superior to my own. So he hands my “Infinite Crisis” with the cryptic words, “Here, see if you can get through it. I couldn’t.” Scary words I know. So I hunkered down and plowed through this title. Now I’ll admit that I am not an avid DC reader, but I feel I know my fair share. I was so lost at parts, the humor was me trying to make sense of it. Heroes I’d never even heard of coming out the woodwork. Terrible names too. Sometimes you get a great name, others… well. The other thing that really took me back was how easy Superheroes were dying. A stray punch from Superman (one of them at least) kills one hero, and the rest go down just like that. I’ve read my share of comics, and a hero NEVER goes down that easy, it’s a couple of pages of throwing building at each other. Ha, ok maybe not. But you get my point. Every aspect of the DC universe had a darker feel to it, and I’m all for adding drama and tension with a sinister aspect to a story. This however just felt like wanton destruction. JJ later explained to me it was DC’s way of cleaning house and getting rid of some of the Supers they had created. It may be sentimental of me to say this, but these heroes were created and loved. Even the ones with silly names were somebody’s hero. Don’t they deserve a better send off than this? I didn’t enjoy this title, and I can’t recommend it, but some die hard fans out there I’m sure will tell me I’m wrong. If you are a casual graphic novel reader, give this one a pass.
