First thing you should know is that Stan Lee on the back of the book states that he is by no
means trying to make the legendary characters better. He is just giving us a different
take. For the most part they are interesting and worth reading. I was disappointed by the
Superman take but the other three were good. They are by no means are better than the
originals and were not meant to be. You can clearly see Stan Lee's style in the characters.
Though to me the characters all were a little shallow and would have been hard to make into
anything more than this one off book. I do like that all four stories have the same
villain. The villain as far as I know was also new and really got to be developed well
after all four stories. Most reviews of this book that I have seen all are pretty negative.
I will agree that this book is not great but any Stan Lee fan should read it. The story by
themselves are worth reading, other than maybe the Superman story. I don't think any of
these characters are as powerful as the real characters are and I think this could be why a
lot of people are turned off on this book.

Well, at first look, you are not quite sure what to make of it. Stan Lee creating Dc superheroes? But we find out this is just a fun exercise by Stan, and I think the man has earned the right to experiment a little. What this book boils down to, is that it's an alternate origin stories for some of our favorite superheroes. Namely Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and Green Lantern. When you read the stories you wonder if the alternate stories would have generated the awesome following that hte originals did. My belief? No. The Batman origin is truly different, and is my persoanl favorite. Green Lantern being a power of nature is a different look, but I couldn't help but yell "Go Captain Planet!" Wonder Woman I'll admit I never followed at all, so I can't compare her stories justly. The only story that you feel let down in is the Superman story. It just had very little draw to it, and it just felt...wrong. All in all, this book series should be looked at in a fun little "what if". I believe that if you are just willing to let your mind wonder, this is a fun read.
