The MAX title for those that do not know means that it is designed for adults. The main reason for this book to get a explicit content label is for the blood and guts. It also had a fair amount of swear words in it, well only one but it is used over and over again. This Punisher story advances Frank Castle to retirement age. This does not soften him up at all and he is still as buff as ever. The story is great and the artwork is better. I have always liked The Punisher and this book did not disapoint. If you like The Punisher and have not read this book then you need to get it right away.

So I'll level with you, I'm not a Punisher fan. I'm familar with his story, but it always felt a little one dimensional. The only time I really cared about him, was when he was involved with a crossover with one of the heros I cared about. All that being said I really liked In the Begining. First off it has a Mature rating, which is something good ol' Frank Castle deserves. This does open the story up a little bit, and also makes for some truly dark and distrubing panels. The story sets up the whole reason Frank becomes the Punisher. Past that we see the mafia and the government trying to put a stop to his style of vigilante justice. At the end of the book I was just hoping there are more coming from the MAX series. If you like the Punisher at all give this one a shot.
