My first video game system was the NES, so yes that does give you an idea of my age. My second system was the orginal game boy, the big clunky one. My first game for the gameboy was Super Mario Land. After having played the orginal Mario since getting the NES I was very excited to get a new Mario game as well as have a portable version of a Mario Game. Super Mario Land is a lot like the orginal Mario. It is side scrolling, has tubes to go down, monster to stomp on, bricks to break. This game adds a few more creatures, and some unique levels. It does take a step backwards in regards to graphics but at that time all Gameboy games did just that. It is not as crisp as the NES Mario game. One of the things is that you think you are landing squarly on the creature you are smashing yet you either lose a life or become small. Overall I do really like this game and have lots of great memories of it. I think it is almost as good as any side scrolling mario game. You do have to get past the ancient graphics and just enjoy the game for being what it was meant to be.
