Well this review is going to be short and sweet. Recently I got a chance to try out WET on the XBOX 360. I liked what I have seen in commercials, and was more than willing to give this game its fair shake. You play Rubi, essentially a gun for hire. That’s really ALL you need to know about her, because the story aspect of this game is severely lacking. But on to the important bits, how does it play? Well, evidently Rubi is a specialized badass. She can run up a wall spring flip off of it, blazing away at two baddies with both pistols before rolling into cover. Wow! You think to yourself, “Man if I just pop out of cover quick, I can waste that last guy!” Nope. If you try to just shoot, without doing acrobatics of any kind, Rubi fires SO slowly that you think she is reloading after every shot. I’m not kidding here folks. This leads to you doing acrobatics ALL the time just so Rubi doesn’t get torn to shreds. This is taken back a little once you find her sword, but she does way more damage when sling or flipping than by running. This led me to put the game down. It just didn’t make sense.
I should mention something quite redeeming about the game. The art looks fantastic. Well done nice presentation, and I did like the idea of her “Rage” mode, where everything became cell shaded and only existed in red, black or white. Lends you the feeling that Rubi has taken enough and she just needs to take out the enemies in front of her.
Final word: It’s ok. Well presented, but they don’t give the main character any humanity. If you think bouncing off wall in slow mo slashing at guys with a sword sounds cool for an entire game, then this one is for you. Otherwise, take a pass.
High Points: Great visuals
Low Points: Sliding on your knees just to shoot gets boring fast and repetitive gameplay.
