I do like this movie despite it having some major weaknesses. I like the dark, historical
locations that were in the movie. Some of the historical churches are very cool. It is to
bad that we can't build things with as much character as these old buildings. Alex played
by Heath Ledger gives up his priesthood without much thought put into it. I have a problem
with that because it would be a life changing decision that would not be taken lightly. I
also think that some of the reactions to some of the situations were a little insensitive
and people in the position that they were in would have reacted a little different. I felt
the ending was a little forced and just happens with little surprise. I do remember when
this came out that several church groups were very against this movie, and I can see why.
There are several scenes that put religion and some religious groups in a negative light. I
did like the combination of humor, occult and historical scenes. I would recommend you to rent this one verses buying it.

I really like movies based on religions and the occult and this one has it. Creepy kid's that might be demons, power hungry and corrupt priests, conspiracies, love vs. faith conflicts and good acting make this movie a must see in my opinion. If your one of those religious zealots out there give it a rest, but then again, you're probably not browsing this site anyway.. It's just a movie and as a movie does what it's supposed to: entertain. If your into this type of movie buy it or rent it. I'm sure you won't be sorry.
