The name of the lead scientiest, Dr. Todd Carmack, is a reference to Todd Hollenshead and John Carmack, co-owners of id Software, the creators of the original doom game and its sequels, including Doom 3 upon which this movies is based.
Pinky Demon is a monster from the game and has organic front legs but mechanical rear legs.

Goofs
When Sarge takes his first jump up onto the stairwell in the final fight with Grimm you can see two wires coming from the back of Sarge lifting him up.
Goat is seen carving a cross into his arm early in the film, but later when Duke is checking for his pulse on the same arm, there are no scars or cuts.
Gravity on Mars is 0.376 times the earth's. This difference should have affected the way people walked on the planet.
In the scene where Goat comes back to "life", the wounds and blood on his face/neck switch sides.
