Alex West was originally named Alex Mars but because the name hadn't been cleared by the legal department it couldn't be used. Simon West decided to name the character Alex West, after his father, since he knew, that if needed, he could get legal clearance for the name.

Apart from normal jumping, the only moves Lara Croft (Angelina Jolie) does in the movie which can also be done in the games is the jump over the living statue and rolls in the air. This can be done in the Playstation game by pressing forward and square, then circle while in the air.

The four-headed god Lara fights in the underground tomb is the Hindu god Brahma. It is worth noting that no temple in Cambodia was built for this god. Most were dedicated to Shiva. The monkeys Lara fights there are modeled after the ones at Banteay Srei, a temple located far from Angkor Wat. They are the guardians of the door.

Just like in the game, in the movie, Lara only has to put items that she had gathered near her backpack and they disappear from her hands.

The music played while the explorers are in the Siberian village and then on the sleds is Tuvan throat singing.

Goofs

When Powell pulls the knife out of his shoulder, the blade is obviously retractable.

When Powell pulls out the knife and throws it at Alex, it is spinning. When Lara has time reverse, the knife is moving straight.

When Alex is counting down to get the first half of the triangle, he reaches 28 seconds. Lara then interrupts and has a conversation that lasts over 28 seconds. When Alex resumes his countdown he begins at 12 seconds again.

During the final action scene Lara puts her guns on the ground. In the following sequence, when she is running from the room, she has her guns holstered at her hips yet she had no opportunity to pick them up.

As the locals are trying to pull down the wall to find the first piece of the triangle, Alex West takes off his shirt and starts to pull on the rope with the rest of the gang. In the next shot he is clearly seen to the left of the screen with his shirt back on as the wall topples down, jumping up and down and shouting something.
