Though set in 1976, Coach Jones drives a 1979 Ford F-150 Custom Pickup Truck.

Early in the movie, in a scene featuring Coach Jones in his office, behind him is a coke bottle commemorating Paul "Bear" Bryant as the winningest coach in college football. That coke bottle was made after his retirement in 1982, and the movie takes place in 1976.

During the last game of the season, Coach Jones gets a flag thrown by the referee then Radio is flagged by the same referee. Referees only carry 1 yellow flag - done properly, the ref would have tossed his cap in the air for Radio's infraction.

During the end credits, clips show the real James Robert Kennedy at Hanna High School football games in the present day.
