Rose: Because you're her mother. Mother is God in the eyes of a child.
Sony acquired United States and Latin American distribution rights for $14 million US Dollars.
Many of the creatures in the film were played by dancers so they could be flexible enough to create the required disturbing movements.
It took director Christophe Gans five years to obtain the rights to make the film. He was given the rights after he sent Konami a video of an interview describing how much Silent Hill meant to him. Along with the interview, he sent scenes that he filmed on his own dollar cut up and overlayed with music from the games.
The version we see in theaters is the one Director Christophe Gans wanted us to see. He said in an interview that the studio executives loved his version, and he was never asked to cut down his film length. Although the initial script of the film was expected to be 3 and a half hours, the film was never shot with that length in mind.
The cellphone used by Chris (Sean Bean) is a Sony-Ericsson Z600.
The map of the underground hospital is the exact same map used for the hospital level in the game "Silent Hill 2"
Whenever Rose receives a call on her cell phone, the ringtone that plays is the same sound heard in Metal Gear Solid when Snake receives a Codec call. Metal Gear Solid, like Silent Hill, is made by Konami.
Centralia, Pennsylvania was the inspiration for the movie adaptation of the game Silent Hill. In researching the different elements of Silent Hill, screenwriter Roger Avary came across the town of Centralia, Pennsylvania, an almost abandoned town with a 40 year old coal fire burning underneath it. Centralia planted the seed for what developed into the cinematic version of the town of Silent Hill.

In the final scene, when the congregation has gathered, a phrase written in Latin is visible around the ceiling of the main chamber. It reads, "Domine Deus Omnipotens in Cuius Manu Omnis Victoria Consistit..." Translated this is "O Lord God Almighty, in Whose Hand all Victory Rests..." This is a portion of an old English Prayer from the Pre-Conquest period. The rest may read "...and all war is destroyed, grant me that Thy hand may strengthen my heart so I may fight well and act courageously so my enemies may fall before my sight."
Apart from "Ring of Fire" by Johnny Cash every piece of music is directly from the game series.
The weapons we see being used by the men with gas masks are metal pipes. The metal pipe is one of the first weapons encountered in the Silent Hill games.
There were a total of 165 sets and locations used for the film.
The prayers recited by Christabella and the citizens of Silent Hill within the church in their effort to keep the dark side of Alessa at bay are actually lines from Revelation, a book in the New Testament of the Bible.
The theater in Silent Hill is playing a double feature of the Vincent Price vehicle, "The Last Man on Earth" and its remake "The Omega Man", starring Charlton Heston. Both of these films were based on Richard Matheson's story "I Am Legend".
In the witch burning picture in the church crew members for the movie were painted as spectators watching the burning.
Was filmed primarily in Brantford, Ontario, Canada. The decaying downtown strip that was used for most of the film is a section of Colbourne St. It was picked as such because not many modifications were needed as that area of the downtown was already in a state of decay (but has since been cleaned up considerably) and consisted mostly of abandoned buildings that could be 'dressed' easily for filming.
The line from Sharon "Don't talk to strangers" is lifted directly from Heather in "Silent Hill 3".
In the hospital the nurses are attracted to light just as the monsters are in Silent hill 1, 2, and 3.

When Christabella drops her dagger after stabbing Rose in the church, it comes to rest with its point touching the floor and its handle slightly raised. When we see it again, it is the tip that is slightly raised so as to drip Rose's blood on the floor. When we see it next, the tip is back on the floor.
When Christopher asks about Sharon at the garage, the mechanic is working on a Dodge Magnum with a West Virginia license plate on the front of the car. West Virginia doesn't require, nor is it possible to have, a state license plate on the front of the car.
When Rose is in the bathroom at the old school, she walks over to The Janitor to take something out of his mouth. If you look very closely, when she sticks her hand through the "barbed wire", it grazes her skin and you can plainly see that it is made out of rubber.
